I've been thinking about Geoff Marshall's most recent youtube video on where life is taking him, and how time is passing alarmingly quickly.
Where am I going at the moment? What actually is changing, what would I rather be doing, am I actually using the time that I have in the best way I can?
No.
I know that I'm not, the amount of time I spend doing nothing is way too much, it feels like at times I'm incapable of using the time I have. Whether I'm just tired after work, or overwhelmed, its pretty much go to work, come home, go to sleep, wake up, go to work, ...
Its not anything I want to do, not anything I enjoy, time is just passing anyway.
I wish I could do something about it. Yet all day at work I'm staring at a computer, what money do I have to be able to spend time on things I want to do? Doing anything requires space, which requires somewhere bigger to live than a 1 bed apartment, which is pretty much unaffordable, unless I go with a house that is missing a few walls.
And now, away from the computer, the only green area that I can reasonably get to, without taking a whole day's worth of walking (or using a car that I don't own or spending money on public transport) is going to have housing built on it. The local council is legally required to let it have houses built on it, due to a shortage of available land for housing to be built on. I'm all for more housing being built, but does it really have to be on top of the only green space near me, one that is already designated as a nature reserve? Even though there are thousands of objections, from people who live near by, from businesses, charities, the local school, it seems to be bad for everyone other than the developers.
Other places that are further away have caught fire, with many wild fires around the country, this being the driest summer on record. And now, due to how dry the ground is, the coming rain is likely to cause flooding. And next year will be El Niño, with even higher temperatures predicted, harsher storms and even more climate records broken.
Even the government is now telling us all to stock up on food and water in case of emergency and it no-longer being possible to buy fresh food or have running water. That said, they are also saying that it will not effect us here in the UK directly[1], so are they fearmongering? Seems likely to me, but who knows.
And yet millions of $ are being given to people who seem to support the current US government's political views, people who are fascist[2], racist and support ethnic cleansing. Its hard for me to even understand how someone could consider others as something to be killed, rather than other people, just trying to live their lives. There are a few people with so much money that they just live in a completely different world to the rest of us. Yet some people support that 0.01%, over their own self interest, in case they suddenly get a £billion.
Why would I want to accept that people think the world should be "helped" by hurting others? https://www.the-reframe.com/apology-not-accepted/
What can i be doing?
I don't know. Its hard to know what is true, and what isn't especially as so many people are investing so much time and money into getting everyone to believe their fascist, racist beliefs, trying to gain people's trust.
There's nothing any individual can do about all of this, not on our own.
At what point is it all going to collapse, how many years of things constantly getting worse can we take?
